A deadly train accident has taken place in Taiwan killing at least 36 passengers and making hundreds of others injured. The accident is reported to have become the largest in the last 40 years.

According to the international news agency, Reuters, the train had hit a truck before it left the railway track inside a tunnel. The train was going to Taitung from Taipei carrying 350 passengers on board. Several boxes, with passengers, of the train having 8 boxes altogether are said to have still been remaining inside the tunnel. 

News agencies have said 61 moderately wounded passengers have been taken to hospitals and the rescue efforts are going on.         Previously, a train accident happened there in 1981 had taken lives of 30 people.
