Archaeologists have found a more than 34 hundred years old city covered by sand in Egypt. The finding is considered to be the most significant archaeological achievement after the finding of the tomb of Tutankhamun, an Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty.

Jahi A. Hawass, a renowned Egyptian archaeologist, declared last week that the lost 'Golden City' was found near Laxor, Egypt. The city was never known  there  before.

While Hawass' team was searching for Tutankhamen's Mortuary Temple, they, instead, surprisingly found a series of mud walls rising out of the sand, some about 10 feet tall and built in a zig-zag design characteristic of the period. Other archaeologists had previously searched for  and failed to find the city.  

The historical city was found after excavation work of several weeks in last September.

The city is assumed to be of the reign of the most powerful ruler of Egypt, Pharoah Amenhotep III. Amenhotep had ruled in Egypt during 1391 BC to 1351 BC. Even after his reign, Pharoah and Tutan kept on ruling over  the city.

Near the city, the tomb of Tutankhamun was found in 1922 by British archaeologist Howard Carter.

Archaeologists say the city provides a glimpse of Egypt empire when it was very rich and prosperous. They further say so many precious things like ornaments, colourful mud-utensils, amulet  mud-bricks with Amenhotep's stamp etc. are found from the excavation.

Similarly, there are found a bakery, an administrative area, and a residential area as well.

The team had excavated at the place known as 'Valley of the Kids' located near the western coast of Laxor, 500 km away to the southern part from Cairo

Egypt has given priority to finding historically and archeologically important places in the country aiming to promote tourism.
