A reproduced version of Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa has been sold in 3.4 million dollor (40 crore 20 lakh and 84 thousand rupees) at an auction in France on Friday.
As reported by agencies, the duplicate painting was sold in about ten times its estimate value at an online auction by Christie's Auction House in Paris.
The reproduction of the painting is believed to have been painted in the early 1600s, about 100 years after the Mona Lisa. The painting hangs in the Paris Louvre.
Vinci had created the painting on a wood panel, while the replica is on canvas.
As French art collector Raymond Hekking had purchased it from an antique shop in 1950s, reports say, the copy has been dubbed after Hekjing's name as the 'Hekking Mona Lisa'.
Since he purchased the painting, Hekking had attempted to prove the duplicate painting to be the real Vinci's work.
Citing to the Pierre Etienne of the auction, reports said global art experts might have judged the Hekking work not to be a real one, however, the final bid set a record for a reproduction.
da Vinci's Mona Lisa, one of the most famous works of art in the world, is also one of the most reproduced and reinterpreted art.
