'We don't allow foreign interference': President Xi

On the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the Communist Party of China (CPC), President Xi Jinping on Thursday warned that Chinese people 'will never allow' any foreign force to 'bully, oppress, or subjugate them. President Xi also called for building a strong military to defend the country.

Addressing to the grand program at the historic Tiananmen Square, held to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the ruling Communist Party China (CPC), president Xi also said that integrating Taiwan with the Chinese mainland was a historic mission of the ruling party.

Xi said, 'No one should underestimate the great resolve, the strong will, and the extraordinary ability of the Chinese people to defend their national sovereignty and territorial integrity'.

In his more than an hour long address, 68 years old president Xi said that they must accelerate the modernisation of national defence and the armed forces.

Official television channels had telecast live the Xi's address.

Saying that China is equipped with greater capacity and more reliable means for safeguarding their national sovereignty, security, and development interests, Xi added that China did not oppress other countries and would not allow others to bully them.

Xi also said that China claimed the estranged island of Taiwan as part of its mainland, and added, "We must take resolute action to utterly defeat any attempt toward 'Taiwan independence,' and work together to create a bright future for national rejuvenation".

Giving emphasis on the need of upholding the firm leadership of the CPC, president Xi said that the leadership of the party was the defining feature of socialism with Chinese characteristics and constituted the greatest strength of this system. He said, "It is the foundation and lifeblood of the party and the country, and the crux upon which the interests and wellbeing of all Chinese people depend".

Pointing towards the necessity of accelerating the modernisation of national defence and the armed forces, Xi said that China would elevate its armed forces to world-class standards so that they would be equipped with greater capacity and more reliable means for safeguarding their national sovereignty, security, and development interests.

President Xi attributed to Chinese characteristics, including the fundamental level, the capability of the party and the strengths of socialism and claimed that Marxism 'works'. He said 'We will use Marxism' to observe, understand, and steer the trends of our times, and continue to develop the Marxism of contemporary China and in the 21st century.

Xi further claimed that China pioneered a new and uniquely Chinese path to modernisation and created a new model for human civilisation by consistently developing socialism with Chinese characteristics.
